2016 student awards

James Franek and Derek Bas received the Dr. Mohindar S. Seehra Research Award “in recognition of doctoral student who is advancing research in physics by publishing research in high-quality peer-reviewed physics journals."

Sobhit Singh received the Oleg D. and Valentina P. Jefimenko Physics Fellowship graduate fellowship to “advance research in energy and environmental sciences as well as nanotechnology and material sciences activities in the department”.

Derek Thompson received the Robert T. Bruhan Research Award “to support the research effort of students in nanotechnology and material science”.

Nihan Pol received the Arthur Weldon Prize given to “recognize an academically outstanding student in their first year of graduate school in the department”.

Thomas Steinberger received the Carl A. Rotter Teaching Award in “recognition for outstanding teaching in either the classroom or the laboratory by nomination from the Laboratory Manager or Physics Faculty.”

Thomas Steinberger also received the Outstanding Graduate Teaching Assistant award. Given to an excellent teaching assistant in Physics.

Miquel Henriquez and Mikal Dufor received the Benjamin James Galford Research Scholarship given to those “who are advancing research in energy and environmental sciences, nanotechnology & material science, and biological, biotechnological, and biomedical sciences."

Andrew Jemiolo received the Robert T. Bruhn Research Award “to support the research effort of students in nanotechnology and material science”.

Manaswi Daksha received The Oleg D. and Valentina P. Jefimenko Physics scholarship “for undergraduate Physics majors demonstrating academic promise and financial need”.

Samantha Isaac received The Ramana, Sumitra, and Shampa Reddy / Philip Stark Scholarship for “undergraduate Physics majors based on academic merit and financial need”.

Emily Stiner received The Edmund A. and Rose C. Rotter Scholarship “for rising juniors or seniors who are either Physics majors or in the Physics Education program that are making progress in their academic program and can demonstrate financial need”.

Christopher Doss received The Outstanding Senior Award “given to an excellent graduating undergraduate in Physics”.

Julianne Mcllvain received the Benjamin James Galford Memorial Scholarship for “undergraduate student pursuing Bachelor of Science in Physics at WVU Scholarship Information”

Miquel Henriquez received the William E & Bonniegail Kuuca Coleman Scholarship awarded to a major or pre-major in the Department of Physics or the Department of Chemistry who is participating in ongoing research with an Eberly College faculty member in one of the University designated research trust fund initiatives.

Manaswi Daksha received the 2016 Outstanding Physics and Astronmoy Senior. Given to an excellent graduating undergraduate in Physics

Zachary Short received the 2016 Goldwater Scholar. it is the most prestigious undergraduate award of its type and recognizes the commitment and potential each winner has to make a significant contribution to science.
