The Physics Department is undergoing a major expansion with hiring of five new faculty members in the past two years.
Sergei Urazhdin, who joined the Deparment in 2005, is a condensed matter experimentalist in the area of spintronics. In 2006, James Lewis (computational condensed matter theory), Feruz Ganikanov (experimental optics), Radioastronomers Maura McLaughlin, and Duncan Lorimer are also joining the Department.Thomas H. Myers was selected to receive the Robert C. Byrd Professorship Award.
