Three Tenure-Track Positions in
Experimental and Theoretical Condensed Matter Physics
West Virginia University
The Department of Physics at West Virginia University invites applications for three tenure-track faculty positions to begin in August 2009 or later. Two of the positions will be at the assistant professor level and the third may be filled at the associate or full professor level. We anticipate that two of these positions will be in experimental and one in theoretical/computational condensed matter physics. These positions represent an expansion of the condensed matter physics program in conjunction with the move of the entire Department of Physics to a new building in 2010. The new positions will complement or add to the existing strengths in the areas of optical and photonic materials, wide-band-gap semiconductors, energy conversion materials, statistical mechanics, magnetism, spintronics, and multifunctional materials. Candidates with other condensed matter specializations are also encouraged to apply. See http://physics.wvu.edu for a description of existing condensed matter research. Minimum requirements are a Ph.D. in condensed matter physics, or related field, postdoctoral experience, and a commitment to teaching at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. The successful candidate is expected to develop a nationally competitive research program. West Virginia University is located in a picturesque mountain setting within easy driving distance of Pittsburgh, Washington DC, and Baltimore. To apply, send a single pdf file containing a curriculum vitae with a full list of publications, a five year research plan including an estimate of startup costs, and a statement of teaching philosophy and experience to Siobhan Byrne at sbyrne@wvu.edu with subject line Condensed Matter Search. Please arrange to have three letters of reference sent either by email to the above address or by mail to Condensed Matter Search, WVU Department of Physics, P.O. Box 6315, Morgantown, WV 26506. Review of applications will begin December 12, 2008, and will continue until the positions are filled. West Virginia University is an affirmative action, equal opportunity employer. Applications from women and members of historically under-represented groups, as well as from dual-career couples, whatever the academic area of the partner, are encouraged.
