Joonhee Lee

Assistant Professor

Optoelectronics / Biophysics / Neuroengineering

Biography and Research

Dr. Lee received his B.S. in Physics Education and Ph.D. in Physics at Seoul National University, South Korea. He was a postdoctoral researcher in the School of Engineering at Brown University under the mentorship of prof. Arto Nurmikko. Dr. Lee is currently an assistant professor in the Department of Physics and Astronomy and also participates at WVU Rockefeller Neuroscience Institute.

His research focuses on developing:
  1.  Advanced optoelectronic neurostimulation and sensing platform for optogenetics and optical control, and
  2. Biomaterials and microfabrication technology for multifunctional implantable devices.
Moving forward, long-term research goals are the creation of an optoelectronic closed-loop feedback control system for neural circuits and the advancement of neurophotonic methods, and the fundamental study of biophysical phenomena in various biological systems. These goals require a multidisciplinary approach from material science, biophotonics, optoelectronics, neuroscience, and implantable microdevice technology.
