Tristan Wilkinson

Ph.D. 2022; Image Science Engineer at L3Harris

"The fundamental skill learned in graduate school is research. By learning how to do research, one learns how to learn new things. So in a sense, in graduate school I learned how to learn things. This is an invaluable skill in every aspect of my life, not just my current job. Once the research method is learned, possibilities become endless."

Dr. Tristan Wilkinson grew up in upstate New York in the suburbs of Albany. He attended SUNY Geneseo for his undergraduate degree, which is where he first gained an interest in optics. He graduated in 2017 with a B.A. in Physics and minors in math and environmental studies. He conducted research with Dr. Edward "Ned" Flagg for 5 years, including some collaboration work with Marcelo Davanco at NIST Gaithersburg. He graduated with his Ph.D. in the Spring of 2022, and started a job as an Image Science Engineer at L3Harris in Rochester, NY that summer.
