It's amazing to me how I traveled half the way around the globe and landed myself in the most awesome research group and department at large.

Plasma & Space Physics

Nilay studies plasma shocks, specifically hot flow anomalies (HFAs). Using MMS spacecraft data, he analyzes electrostatic waves in HFAs to understand their role in particle energization and thermalization, as well as the instabilities that generate them. Additionally, he contributes to a project on the auroral acceleration region (AAR), which entails developing electric fields instruments for CubeSat in the AAR.

Research Interests: Collisionless plasma shock, Hot flow anomaly, Wave – particle interaction.
