Q&A with Aidan

  • What are your favorite things about the department?
    • I like that there are departmental events and opportunities for undergraduates to join research groups.
  • What do you think is the most interesting thing about your research?
    • Research seems like something that you need a lot of physics knowledge to do, but you can start without any physics classes taken. I like that I can get other relevant skills like understanding academic journals in addition to gaining research skills.
  • Why did you want to pursue physics?
    • I always wanted to do research involving space, but now that I am at WVU, I have decided to switch to condensed matter research.
  • Why did you choose West Virginia University?
    • There are many activities to do in nature through the university, and to join research groups that do high-end research.
  • How have your professors and/or staff helped you be successful?
    • I have had a positive experience doing research because the advisors provide good ideas and helpful feedback to support your progress.
  • What advice would you give to an incoming student?
    • Get to know other undergraduate students as soon as possible to work together on classwork, and join a research group to get experience. You should also talk with professors so they get to know you. If you are interested in a single research area, go to the weekly colloquia to see what research in like in other areas, because you might find that another area seems more interesting.
