Resources for Mentors

  • The Physics Research Mentor Training Seminar is a facilitation guide to a training seminar for physics faculty, postdocs, and graduate students in mentorship roles. The guide is intended to help physics researchers improve their mentoring skills and to improve research experiences for the next generation of physicists. It was developed for the American Physical Society (APS) at the University of Wisconsin-Madison's Center for Education Research (WCER) with support from the National Science Foundation (NSF).
  • Nature's guide for mentors describes the qualities and attributes of a good mentor, supported by direct quotes from mentors and mentees. The guide was originally published in Nature 447, 791-797 (2007).
  • The Mayo Clinic Mentorship Toolkit was developed for use in biomedical sciences, but contains a wealth of valuable information applicable to anyone working in STEM.
